Installation methods

We are familiar with all types of installation methods, including Nail Down, Glue Down and Floating applications. Our staff brings their years of experience on-site to help you, the customer, reach a decision on which method of installation and other considerations best fit your specific job.
Nail Down
This is generally the best installation method if your subfloor is 3/4" thick plywood or wood planks over joists, and typically the most economical option. This installation method is commonly used for Solid Wood flooring, either pre-finished or unfinished. Nail Down installation of unfinished solid flooring material also offers the greatest flexibility in product and aesthetic choices. If the conditions allow, this method works best.
Glue Down
If the subfloor is a concrete slab, certain types of solid wood flooring, such as wide boards, need to be glued as well as nailed down; whereas many types of engineered flooring can be glued directly to the slab. Other types of flooring, such as 5/16" thick Parquet, should be glued down even if the subfloor is wood.
Floating
This encompasses a variety of engineered or laminated products, held down by the base board trip and other moldings. These products are dimensionally stable and are therefore suitable for installation in areas below grade. This method of installation is achieved by applying foam underlayment and installing the flooring on top of it. Thus, the boards are connected one to another, but not to the subfloor.
