Job preparation checklist

Weather and Heating Conditions
A weather-proof and stabilized interior environment is important to maintain the beauty of wood flooring. Therefore, it is vital to have the job site conditions, such as temperature and humidity, at the proper levels prior to the delivery and throughout the installation period. Please note that when wood is installed into areas with radiant heat systems, it may require longer periods of acclimation time than those with HVAC systems. For specific information about the levels of humidity and acclimation of wood, please consult with our sales team.
Sub - Floor Preparation
The condition of the sub-floor is very important to the final appearance of your new hardwood floor. All sub-floors are checked prior to the installation process and minor imperfections in the sub-floor will be fixed at no extra cost. Should major repair work be needed, you will be notified immediately with an estimate of the cost and duration. Please note that some repairs may be classified as structural, which would require a licensed general contractor.
Pre-Installation/Sanding Checklist for Furniture
Please have all furniture removed from areas where the work is going to be performed. Dust sensitive equipment, such as computers and electronics, should also be stored as far away from worksite as possible. Unless specifically noted on your proposal, the moving of furniture is not included with your service.
Pre-Installation / Sanding Checklist for Appliances
Certain appliances, excluding the built-in type, may need to be disconnected and/or removed from areas of work. These appliances include the following: refrigerators, dishwashers, trash compactors, washers, dryers, etc. Unless specifically noted on your proposal, the moving of appliances is not included with your service. In addition, we will neither disconnect nor reconnect any plumbing fixtures, as we recommend this be done by a licensed contractor.
Power
The installation process will require 110 volt, 15-amp electrical outlet and the sanding process will require 220 volt or 30-amp electrical outlet. Generally, a 220 volt can be found at the dryer (electric only) outlet or the sub-panel. Please be sure these areas are accessible for the connection of extension cords. If it is necessary for us to rent a generator to supply adequate power to the job site, an additional fee will be required to cover the rental and any associated labor costs.
Existing Doors and Trim
We will not be responsible for the cutting of doors or trim, which may be required during the installation of flooring or other services and we recommend that this be done by a licensed contractor.
Check Crawl Space for Moisture
Inspect the underside of your structure for moisture and check the information letter for the effects of moisture (cupping/buckling). If moisture is present, please call us immediately to discuss possible alternatives and actions to reduce the risk of moisture related problems.
Dust
Unfortunately, the type of work that will be performed may generate a fair amount of dust on-site. Upon request, we can use a Dust Containment System (DCS) during the sanding and refinishing phase, however, dust may still occur. Our Crew will make every effort possible to control dust and keep it isolated to the area of work. Kitchen cabinets and openings to adjacent rooms will be covered with plastic during the sanding/finishing process. Clean up is not included in your proposal.
Noise / Odors
Due to the type of equipment necessary, there will be times when the noise may be uncomfortably loud. Moreover, depending upon the type of finish being used, there could be strong odors. While most of the products used in finishing your hardwood flooring are non-toxic and safe, we still suggest that you leave the vicinity. For safety reasons, we also recommend that children and pets are kept away from the work area. For VOC information regarding the finishes, please consult with our sales team.
Touch-Up Painting
In some cases, touch-up painting will be necessary and is the responsibility of the owners. Walls, painted cabinets and painted baseboards may need to be touched-up upon the completion work. If we install new paint-grade baseboards, the painting is also excluded.
Duration of Work
As jobs vary in size, the duration of our work also varies. Please note that most floor finishes require up to 24 hours of drying time between coats, during which the floors must remain untouched. Although applied finish may be dry after 24 hours, some require a longer period of time for curing and hardening. Typical floor finishing will include 3 or more applications of finish. During this time, it is recommended to maintain light usage of the flooring, and the removal of shoes and use of booties is suggested. For the duration of work and estimation of applied-finish drying and curing time, please consult with our sales team.
Work Hours
In general, our crew works an 8-9 hour day. Typically, you can expect our crews to arrive at the jobsite between 8:15-9:00am. Finish coats, following floor sanding, may be done at different times during normal work hours. We do our best to provide an accurate timeframe within which our finishing crew will arrive to the jobsite. However, due to unforeseen circumstances, such as heavy traffic or alternate jobsites delays, they may arrive earlier or later than predicted and we appreciate your flexibility and understanding.
Postponements/Cancellations
If you need to postpone or cancel scheduled work, please notify the office at least 3 business days prior to the scheduled start date.
Payments
Please refer to our estimate/contract for the payment schedule requested. You may give your payment to the project manager and we request that you please have a check or money order ready prior to the arrival of our crew. Currently, we are unable to accept credit cards.
- As with many projects, it is possible that the work performed by Amber Flooring may be in part with a larger project. Therefore, it is important to coordinate the work performed by us with work performed by others, to avoid possible damages or delays. While we always stand behind the quality of our work, we cannot be held responsible for unforeseen damages caused by others.
